Karen: Do you have software that you are using to track hours anyway? Usually the software will help with that. If nothing else you can just make something up in Excel and keep it that way. Then report it. Have your volunteers turn in their hours, monthly to you, via e-mail, calls or just on a "form" you create. Track it in excel or you can purchase volunteer software that does it for ya.

This is very exciting! I have been in my position as the Director of Volunteers for the past seven years. With a change in administration I have new challenges in front of me. My numbers are great - number of volunteers, hours, money given to the hospital. But, how do I measure the difference we make day to dayz? That's what I think they want and I don't know how to capture that data.

I am excited about this possibility of Volunteer Coordinators/Managers sharing more tools and information with one another. I have been in my position, at a retirement community, for a couple of years and I'm finding there is not a lot of support for volunteer managers. I am wondering how you help a retirement community (management of the retirement community) see that this job is extremely important to the health and wellbeing of senior adults. My budget recently was cut and I will not be able to attend seminars and/or the National Volunteer seminar held in 2006 to learn more about what is offered out in this big world, etc. I have also been elected in our COVA (CEntral Oklahoma Volunteer Association) as V.P. and would find it extremely helpful to be able to have tools that would help me succeed in this position and in the community. In my recent budget, that was cut, I also asked for help to go through the certification process through AVA. Oh well...such is life. Any suggestions?
